Who am I? pt-2

A chance and change.

1977

Who am I? pt-2 starts by me returning to Glenwood. Of course, getting a job, which I soon lost,. Because, I was on probation for my second DUI and out of work for a time I was homeless for a time. It was not the best of times. I found a job at Village Inn. Picked up and taken to Detox again. However, I was able to hold my job, this time. In addition, being referred to treatment at the VA in Grand Junction. I accepted, that was to change the direction of my life.

It was not the treatment at the VA, that was a joke. No real treatment. This was in the dark ages of formal group treatment. I was there 60 days. My boss called wanting my back to work. Walking into the the director’s office. Stating, I was cured and would be not drink again. He agreed and let me go. I hitchhiked back to Glenwood and in the the Big change.

Love

1977-8

Pt-2, Upon returning to work I discovered that I was assistant kitchen manager without the pay or title. Of course I took my place as lead cook just to start back to the same routine. work and go back to my apartment which I shared with 5 other guys. However there was a difference, no drinking. Although I was still looking for women to date, in addition to sleep with. Here I found some of what I was looking for, there were two new bus-girls working now. Sisters both in their 20’s. Attracted to the younger, however, she already had a “boyfriend”, so getting my nerve up I asked the older one out.

She was beautiful and had a great personality, as the saying went. We seemed to hit it off wonderfully, and enjoyed going places other then bars. Really getting my courage up I introduced her to my birth mother and older sister. I fell deeply in Love with her. She was from Missouri and returned home in early December. Inviting me to spend Christmas with them and meet her family all of them she had 6 other siblings, parents, and other relatives for me to get to know.

Marriage? Pt-2

Was in in my future?

I agreed and arranged for the time off from work to fly out to greet my future In-Laws. Scared half to death I had a drink on the plane a big mistake. Where I was to picked up my Love and her, as I found out, Dad and a couple of others I don’t remember who. It was a fantastic week. We were together the whole week and I was accepted by her family. She agreed to come back to marry me sometime following the New Year and my birthday. She would not give me the exact date. I had to ride the bus back to Colorado as I did not have the money to fly. All in and all I had a great time.

Pt-2 She finally returned to Colorado after weeks of teasing me. I had promised her to get us a place which I did not do. However, soon there after I got us a place of our own. it was not much but it was ours. One day we decided on our next days off together we would go to Utah and see my birth mother. while driving down there we saw a sign that pointed to Las Vegas. Looking at each other we just kept driving past the turn to go see mother. It was to be our wedding day, February 27, 1978.

Who AM I? pt-2

Children

As a marriage gift Mother had sold us her mobile home, just move it from Utah and take over the payments of $110.00 with only 4 left to pay. The big surprise was when she announced she was pregnant with our first child. It was a complete surprise to me, plus excitement. Because she wanted daughter so bad she bought dresses and thought of girls names while I wanted a boy and thought of boys names.

Pt-2 I was right, it was a boy. Wanting to name him after me, however my Love did not allow it. I get part of my name, my middle name. as a side note he named his son with the same middle name. Nine months after we were married our son was born both of us were very excited. We were both unprepared for parenthood, she was 22 and I was 28. I will continue this next week with part 3 of my story.
